Redefined K9 Academy

WHAT WE OFFER

The trainers at Goldstar K9 Academy, LLC are well versed in the three general methods of training; natural communication, classical conditioning, and operant conditioning, and typically use an extensive mix of all three to meet the goals of training. The main foundations of our training are classical and natural.

Classical training is generally referred to as “leash and collar” training, while natural communication taps into the dogs’ innate understanding of behavior, social structure, and communication. Operant training, which we tend to engage more sparingly, is most commonly recognized as clicker training and lures or relates a behavior using positive motivation.

About Kara

Kara is the owner and operator of Goldstar K9 Academy, LLC. Her passion for animals started at a young age when she began training for competitive horse riding. Kara started her work with animals assisting in general stable maintenance, and her experience continued to grow through business and barn management, horse training, teaching riding lessons and summer camp facilitation.

Motivated by animals, Kara completed her degree in Animal Nursing and became a Registered Veterinarian Technician (RVT). Working as an RVT she helped various types of exotic animals, dogs, cats and horses. During her 13 years of working as an RVT she adopted a 2 month old pit bull named Skye. During the process of training Skye, Kara connected with a professional dog trainer. She became immediately drawn to the business of dog training as soon as her work with the professionals began. After Skye’s training was complete, Kara continued to shadow the trainer, learning about what practices in the industry showed results. Her passion for training Through this journey, Kara was introduced to the sport of French Ring, and eventually Skye became titled in Brevet. Soon after, Kara brought a Belgian Malinois puppy named Misha into her family. Through extensive training, Misha became Kara’s second dog to be titled in Brevet, and would eventually go on to hold the Ring 2 Regional and National titles. She continues to work her highly skilled dogs for future competitions.

Come visit Goldstar K9 Academy, LLC and let Kara help create great relationships with your family and your dog. Kara’s own experiences help you to ensure you are choosing a great trainer for your best friend.
